CHAPTER IV: His Name is Fred Krueger – Dreams That Kill

CUT TO:

INT. EMMA’S HOUSE – DAY

It’s now late in the afternoon and everyone has gathered at Emma’s house. Paige, Marco, Ellie, Jimmy, Alex, Spinner, Darcy, Peter and Manny all sit and listen to Emma’s story.

EMMA

Freddy Krueger was a child murderer in Springwood, Ohio in the nineteen sixties, he killed dozens of children on Elm Street. He was caught but they couldn’t hold him, some detail was overlook and he was set free.

Everyone looks puzzled as Emma continues the story.

EMMA (CONT.)

The parents of the Elm Street children, including my Mother’s Aunt Rose, tracked him down and burned him to death in his boiler room.

MANNY

Aunt Rose did what?

MARCO

And you know this how?

EMMA

By reading this...

She pulls out Taryn’s diary.

EMMA (CONT.)

This is Taryn White’s diary, she’s Aunt Rose’s daughter. In the last entry before her death she wrote that the new doctor Nancy Thompson was also an Elm Street child who survived Freddy, she told them the story.

JIMMY

Not to be an ass or anything but what exactly does any of this have to do with Toby and JT?

EMMA

I was getting to that part. My Mother said Taryn was having nightmares about a man trying to kill her and she later died with a bunch of other kids at a mental hospital for suicidal teens.

SPINNER

Okay, and...?

EMMA

Don’t you get it? It was Freddy who killed them. I’ve been having dreams about him too, and last night I saw him kill Toby and take JT.

ELLIE

In your dream?

EMMA

Yes.

MANNY

Not the dream thing again.

ALEX

We came here for this? To hear some whacked out story about a dead sicko from the sixties?

PAIGE

This is totally ridiculous Emma, and I thought you were the reasonable one.

EMMA

Look, whether you guys believe it or not, Freddy Krueger comes back in dreams, and if he kills you in your dream you’re dead for real.

MARCO

What you’re suggesting is not realistic. No one can kill you in your dreams.

MANNY

Emma, you’re sounding really crazy right now.

EMMA

Manny you were there, I woke you up remember? How would I know Toby and JT were in trouble if I didn’t dream it?

DARCY

Some people have been known to have psychic intuition, they can feel when something is wrong. I don’t believe in it, but it could be possible.

SPINNER

(sarcastically)

Yeah, and it’s possible to sit and waste time listening to unrealistic crap. Because that’s what we’re doing.

PETER

(To Spinner)

Why don’t you just listen to what she’s saying?

SPINNER

Why don’t you shut-up, before I shut you up.

DARCY

Spinner, no violence.

JIMMY

(To Spinner)

Yeah, big tough bad ass. So changed and disciplined.

SPINNER

I’m out of here. Gotta get to work.

PAIGE

Never thought I’d ever say this again but, I’m with Spinner. I’ve heard enough of this.

MARCO

Sorry, Em.

EMMA

All I can tell you now is be careful, and don’t fall asleep.

Everyone gets up and leaves. Peter stays behind with Emma.

EMMA

(To Peter)

You think I’m crazy too, don’t you?

PETER

No way, in fact I’m rather intrigued by your story. It would make a great horror film.

EMMA

Peter we have to do something about Krueger, I can’t let him do this again.

Peter comforts Emma in his arms.

PETER

We’ll think of something. We can start by reading Taryn’s diary start to finish, since she’s our only link.

EMMA

Okay.

CUT TO:

EXT. DEGRASSI COMMUNITY SCHOOL – EVENING

Manny sits on the steps of Degrassi waiting for the janitor to open the doors. While she waits, she carries on a cell phone conversation with CRAIG MANNING, Manny’s boyfriend and aspiring rock star who left Degrassi to achieve his dream. We CUT between the locations as their dialog is spoken.

MANNY

I’ve never seen Emma like this before. She’s using this Krueger story as a way to blame herself for JT and Toby.

INT. HOTEL ROOM – EVENING

Craig sits on his bed with the phone to his ear and his guitar by his side.

CRAIG

You have to help her Manny, she’s probably in denial about the whole thing. I still can’t believe any of this is real myself.

MANNY

I’m feeling a bit helpless right now, Craig. I’m just really confused about this whole suicide thing. I know JT has had his problems but I don’t remember Toby ever being depressed about anything, not since the shooting anyways.

CRAIG

It’s not something you can detect unless that person is reaching out for help, believe me, I know.

MANNY

I haven’t stop crying since. We’ve been friends for so many years, and now, just like that...gone. And JT...

CRAIG

I wish I had the right words to comfort you, but losing someone is the hardest fact we have to face.

MANNY

Just the sound of your voice is helping but I wish you were here with me right now, I just can’t deal with this alone.

CRAIG

You want some free advice? Dead dream killer theories or not, don’t give up on Emma. She’s your best friend Manny, and need each other to get through this. Everything’s gonna be all right, you’ll see.

MANNY

Advice taken, and thanks.

The Janitor walks up to Manny.

JANITOR

Sorry I’m so late, I’ll open it right up for you.

MANNY

Thanks. Craig? I gotta go, okay?

CRAIG (O.S.)

Call me later.

MANNY

Bye.

Manny hangs up the phone and enters the school.

CUT TO:

INT. THE DOT GRILL – NIGHT

“The Dot” is the main hangout spot for the Degrassi kids, and is Spinner’s workplace. Spinner and another male employee, AARON, close up shop for the night.

AARON

(To Spinner)

I’m going to take the garbage out.

SPINNER

We can get out of here when you’re done.

AARON

Be right back.

Aaron walks away. Spinner yawns while reading his text book. He nods off...

Spinner quickly wakes up, looks at the clock and it reads... “0:00” – ZERO HOUR. Spinner goes to the back to look for Aaron.

INT. BOILER ROOM – ZERO HOUR

Spinner enters the Boiler Room. Realizing that this is not the storeroom of The Dot, he turns to go back but the door has vanished, leaving a steaming steel wall.

The chains rattle and pipes steam Spinner searches for a way out. He looks down a long tunnel with light at the end, he runs down hallway and sees...

INSERT SHOT - FOUR WINGED DEMON-CREATURES

Spinner sees the Demon-Creatures and their white eyes.

They are feasting on a HUMAN BODY. He takes a wrong

step and the creatures see him, they hiss and fly after

him.

As Spinner runs as fast as he can, the creatures stay

hot on his trail. He makes a hard left into a room and

slams the door shut.

INT. FURNACE ROOM – ZERO HOUR

Spinner is now in a room with a fiery furnace. As he walks around, he hears the sound of CRYING. Spinner looks in a corner and sees Freddy kneeling over a girl, slashing her flesh and licking the blood from his knives. Freddy looks around and wipes his mouth with his sleeve.

FREDDY

She’s a tasty little bitch, finger licking good.

Have some.

Freddy pulls the girl's head up and we see that it is none other than Darcy. Spinner does not believe what he is seeing. Darcy is crying and calling out for him, but he has no clue of what to do.

SPINNER

Oh my god, Darcy.

FREDDY

Do you believe in me now, Spin?

SPINNER

Yes I believe, anything you want. Just please don’t kill her, Freddy. She’s all I have left.

DARCY

(crying)

Spinner, don’t. He isn’t real. I don’t believe in evil, I don’t believe in you.

FREDDY

Oh, you don’t huh? You will now, bitch.

Darcy begins to pray and Freddy SNAPS her neck like a twig.

SPINNER

NO!!

VFX SHOT – DARCY’S SOUL

Darcy’s life-force exits her body and enters Freddy.

Spinner sees enough and begins to run, Freddy pursues him. He cannot get out of the room as Freddy gets closer. As Freddy raises his glove ready to strike, Spinner slowly begins to disappear. Sparks fly as Freddy’s knives hit metal instead of Spinner.

QUICK CUT TO:

INT. THE DOT GRILL – NIGHT

Aaron shakes Spinner like crazy, finally waking him up, and just in the nick of time. Spinner jumps up and checks his body for slashes.

AARON

Damn, Spinner, you’re a hard guy to wake up.

SPINNER

(crying)

He got her, man. That bastard murdered her!

He breaks down and weeps for his fallen love, Darcy.

CUT TO:

INT. ALEX’S ROOM – NIGHT

Alex lies in her bed, bored and sleepy, flipping through TV channels. She slowly drifts away...

INT. ALEX’S ROOM – ZERO HOUR

Alex is awakened by a BUZZING sound coming from her television set.

ANGLE ON – TV SCREEN

RED & GREEN color bars fill the screen. A BLACK & WHITE image pops up on the screen. We see a WATER WELL in a forest flashing in and out of focus. Soon, a CREEPY little girl with long black hair begins to crawl out of the well.

ALEX

What the hell...?

ANGLE ON – TV SCREEN

Just as she is about to head towards us, a set of GLEAMING RAZOR CLAWS grabs the creepy girl and pulls her back into the well. With the sound of evil laughter and horrendous screams a GEYSER of BLOOD erupts from the well and then the screen goes BLACK.

THE PHONE RINGS.

Alex cautiously goes to answer it. She picks it up...

ALEX

Hello?

CALLER (O.S.)

(We hear the sound of razors scraping metal)

One, two...

ALEX

(nervously)

Who is this?

CALLER (O.S.)

Freddy’s coming for you...

Alex slams the phone down. The room begins to SHAKE as if a massive earthquake were happening.

VFX SHOT – FREDDY MOUTH

The room begins to TILT left. Alex holds on to the window seal as everything around her slides down. A HUGE FREDDY MOUTH appears on the wall, swallowing everything that slides down. A NASTY TONGUE slithers out of the mouth and licks Alex...everywhere. She loses her grip and falls into the mouth.

INT. CHURCH – ZERO HOUR

Alex is dropped into an old abandoned CHURCH, covered in dust and shadow.

VFX SHOT – MIST

The doors blast open and a foggy white MIST rolls in and MORPHS into Freddy Krueger. Alex steps back.

FREDDY

I’ve been waiting for you, Lexi.

ALEX

(uneasy)

Waiting for me? Why?

FREDDY

Because you’re my kind of girl. You’re an outcast, a loner, you don’t take any shit, like me.

ALEX

That’s not me anymore, I’ve changed.

FREDDY

Oh, that’s right, you’re trying to be a better dyke for your prissy little bitch girlfriend.

ALEX

Don’t talk about her.

FREDDY

I’ll do more than talk about her, I’ll eat her alive and make her love it.

Freddy appears behind Alex and strokes his blades across her face.

FREDDY (CONT.)

Some things take a man’s touch, if you know what I mean.

Freddy takes his other hand and rubs down her crotch. Alex turns and kicks Freddy in the balls and belts him across the face.

ALEX

Don’t ever touch me!

FREDDY

I like a girl with attitude, I’m almost in love with you.

Freddy flexes his razors.

FREDDY (CONT.)

Almost. I’m giving you this one chance Alex, work for me and I’ll let you live. You can spread the fear all over Canada, and maybe even do a little dirty work, starting with him...

Jay Hogart appears. He sees Freddy.

JAY

What the fuck?

FREDDY

(To Alex)

Your old boyfriend, before you became a dude anyways. You’ve wanted to strangle him many times, now’s your chance.

ALEX

I won’t do it.

FREDDY

Come on Alex, kill this fucker. He did give you and Emma that burning sensation remember?

ALEX

Do your own dirty work, Krueger.

FREDDY

(To Jay)

Hey Jay, grab your crucifix.

A big WOODEN CROSS shoots out of the ground, Freddy motions his hand and Jay is nailed to it. He SCREAMS in agony.

JAY

(in pain)

Lexi, help me please...

FREDDY

Suffer the children, and come unto me.

Alex turns her head as Freddy SLASHES Jay to death. He turns his attention back to her.

FREDDY (CONT.)

You disappoint me Alex, I thought you had more...balls.

ALEX

Sorry Freddy, but you picked the wrong chick. I’d rather die than be a slave for you.

FREDDY

It’s settled then...

Alex burst into FLAMES, screaming uncontrollably. She hits the ground and dies.

FREDDY (CONT.)

Now that’s a real burning sensation.

(Laughs)

Their souls enter Freddy.

CUT TO:

INT. ART ROOM – NIGHT

Manny’s so tired that her fashion drawings are starting to look like Sponge Bob characters. She does her best to stay awake, but it doesn’t help...

INT. ART ROOM – ZERO HOUR

Manny wakes up. She looks at her drawing and it’s scribble. She turns to a clean page and goes a new pencil, when she returns a message is on the page...

ANGLE ON – ART PAD

“BETTER STAY UP LATE”

Manny drops the pencil and makes for the door.

INT. HALLWAY – ZERO HOUR

Manny runs down the hallways of Degrassi and runs right into...The Janitor. But this is not the same Janitor from before, this is ROBERT ENGLUND (You know who).

JANITOR

Are you alright honey?

MANNY

I don’t know...Wait a minute; you’re not the same guy?

JANITOR

He...had to leave. It’s my shift now. Here, let me take you back to your classroom.

INT. ART ROOM – ZERO HOUR

The Janitor brings Manny back to the art room. He checks around the place.

JANITOR

Everything seems to be fine in here, child. Your mind is playing tricks on you.

MANNY

Guess I’m a little freaked out.

JANITOR

That’s a good thing, fear inspires creativity. Works wonders for me.

MANNY

OooKay, thanks for checking up on me. Bye now.

He moves closer to her.

JANITOR

You sure are a pretty little girl; you should be in the movies, or on...primetime.

MANNY

Umm...thanks, I guess.

Manny backs up to the desk and grabs her HOT CHOCOLATE.

 JANITOR

If only I were forty years younger.

He tries to stick his tongue in Manny’s mouth and she throws the hot chocolate in his face. The Janitor squirms around and when he turns back to face Manny...it’s FREDDY.

FREDDY

BOO!

MANNY

(Screams)

She takes off running and as soon as she hits the door...

INT. NIGHTMARE HOSPITAL – ZERO HOUR

Manny is on a hospital stretcher being rolled into surgery. The creepy doctors all stare at Manny as she screams hysterically.

INT. EMERGENCY ROOM – ZERO HOUR

Manny is rolled into a room that is lit with RED and GREEN lights. All the doctors grab and poke at Manny, she notices all the medieval-looking tools hanging around.

MANNY

Let me out of here!

CREEPY NURSE

Calm down Ms. Santos, it’ll all be over soon.

MANNY

Please, just let me go.

CREEPY NURSE

What will it be today, huh? The boob-job or the abortion? It doesn’t matter, because the doctor will see you now.

Krueger rises up from the bottom of the bed. Manny is terrified.

FREDDY

My sweet little Manuela. So beautiful, too bad I’m gonna have to fuck up that pretty face of yours.

MANNY

Why are you doing this Freddy? What do you want from us?

FREDDY

I want you inside me.

Emma and Peter show up.

EMMA

Get away from her Krueger!

MANNY

Emma!

FREDDY

(To Emma)

Always on time for the good stuff, eh babe?

PETER

Emma, watch out!

The creepy doctors all surround Emma and Peter, keeping them away from Manny. Emma and Manny catch each other’s eye and Manny mouths the words “I’m Sorry” to Emma.

EMMA

(crying)

No, don’t!

FREDDY

Tears are not enough, bitch!

Freddy takes his blades and rams them into Manny’s stomach, BLOOD spurts from her mouth. Emma screams, Freddy laughs, Manny dies. All of the creepy people disappear, leaving only Freddy, Emma and Peter.

FREDDY (CONT.)

Peter Stone, you’re the next contestant on...Freddy’s Nightmares.

PETER

Emma, run!

As they begin to run, Freddy stops them in their tracks.

FREDDY

Let me give you a hand...

Freddy lifts his glove-hand and strangles Peter without ever touching him. Poor Emma can only sit by and watch helplessly as her friends fall one by one to the dream stalker. Peter’s dead body falls to the ground and Emma runs to him. The souls enter Freddy.

EMMA

(giving up)

Go ahead and kill me, what are you waiting for?

FREDDY

I need you Emma, we’ve got special work to do here you and me. But when the time comes, I’ll slice your throat nice and slow. Now, wake up little girl...

INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

Emma wakes up just as Spike is entering the house. Emma runs through the house looking for Peter, Spike wonders what is going on.

SPIKE

Emma, what’s going on?

EMMA

We have to get to Degrassi!

EXT. DEGRASSI COMMUNITY SCHOOL – NIGHT

Manny and Spike jump out of the car and notice Peter lying dead on the steps. Emma goes to him. Spike sees Jay’s car parked in front of the school and goes to it, inside she finds...Jay’s body, slashed to pieces.

SPIKE

Oh my god.

Spike dials the police on her cell phone. Emma closes Peter’s eyes and kisses his forehead. She then runs into the school and Spike follows.

SPIKE

Emma, wait!

INT. DEGRASSI COMMUNITY SCHOOL – NIGHT

Emma runs down the halls looking for Manny. They make it to the art room to find...

INSERT SHOT – MANNY

Spike and Emma both scream as they find Manny hung on the wall in a crucifix fashion, wrapped in bloody sheets. The wall is decorated with her entrails that hang from her CUT WIDE OPEN stomach. Next to Manny, written in her own blood is “ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN”
