CHAPTER VI: Into The Dream World – Nightmares Come True

FADE UP ON:

EXT. STREET – ZERO HOUR

On a DARK and MISTY street, the gang opens their eyes to find that they are all still together.

EMMA

It worked. We’re here.

PAIGE

Where is here?

SPINNER

(motions to something)

Look...

INSERT SHOT – ELM STREET SIGN

Lightning FLASHES as we see a street sight that reads ELM STREET.

When they turn back around we find that they are standing directly in front of THE ELM STREET HOUSE.

PANNING THE GROUP

Their faces reflect a quiet mix of hope and fear.

CRAIG

This is it, no turning back.

ELLIE

Jimmy...your legs.

In all the fear and excitement, Jimmy never noticed he was walking. He feels his legs and smiles.

PAIGE

Walking tall and looking good there, Jimmy.

JIMMY

Let’s do this.

Emma, Ellie, Craig, Paige, Jimmy and Spinner all make their way to the door and enter the house. THE DOOR SLAMS behind them.

INT. DARK TUNNEL – ZERO HOUR

Inside the house, is not the house at all. The Degrassi kids find themselves in a LONG dark tunnel with a little glimmer of light at the end, no doubt the exit. CREEPY SOUNDS and WHISPERS are heard all around them.

CRAIG

Everyone stay close, anything could be in here with us.

PAIGE

Okay, I so didn’t need to know that.

ELLIE

Umm, guys? Does the ground feel a bit hot to you?

EMMA

You’re right...It does.

The ground begins to RUMBLE as a piece of it falls to the FIERY HELL below.

INSERT – VFX SHOT – SEA OF FIRE.

The gang gets a good view of what is below the surface, a raging SEA OF FIRE with the suffering souls of various Men and Women.

SPINNER

I seriously think that’s our cue to leave.

PAIGE

Right behind you.

As they run, the ground collapses behind them. To make matters even worse...

INSERT SHOT – WINGED DEMON CREATURES

The flying creatures Spinner encountered previously are back, in multiples. They screech and claw over the heads of our heroes, trying to grab them or make them fall to the fire below.

One by one, they reach the exit. Last person running is Paige...

EVERYONE

(various)

Paige, come on! Run as fast as you can! Hurry, it’s right behind you.

The demon creature trips Paige and she hits the floor, the collapsing ground is catching up fast. Spinner runs out to the rescue. He helps Paige to her feet and they run, dodging the creatures and the ground almost gone.

Spinner pushes Paige through the door as the ground totally collapses beneath him. He hangs on with all of his might, Craig and Jimmy grab his arms to pull him in...but it is already to late.

INSERT SHOT – DEMON CREATURES

One of the creatures swoops in and grabs Spin. His screams are the last we hear as they RIP him apart to feast.

CRAIG

SPINNER!!

A BLAST of energy flies through the door, knocking them all off their feet...no doubt Spinner’s soul entering Freddy.

INT. GYM – NIGHT

Liberty cries over what is left of Spinner in the real world (We do not see him, use your imagination), she did what she could to wake him, but it was too late.

LIBERTY

(crying)

I’m sorry, Spinner...I couldn’t wake you.

INT. ROOM – ZERO HOUR

The gang mourns their fallen friend in a room with multiple steel doors.

PAIGE

(crying)

He sacrificed himself to save me...

EMMA

We’re not gonna let Spinner’s sacrifice be for nothing. We’re going to finish this like he would want us too.

ELLIE

One of these doors has to be the way.

JIMMY

Yeah, but which one?

ELLIE

Guys, there’s a lot heat coming from this door.

CRAIG

That’s gotta be it.

JIMMY

Only one way to find out.

Jimmy opens the door and they enter.

INT. FREDDY’S ULTIMATE BOILER ROOM – ZERO HOUR

The Degrassi kids enter Freddy’s Ultimate Boiler Room, which is much bigger than the normal one. This Boiler Room is similar to the one seen in “WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE” with tall STONE PILLARS and various ANCIENT ARTIFACTS but goes even further with GOTHIC STATUES and actual PITS OF FIRE. A sense of awe and terror overcomes the gang as they venture into this steamy place.

JIMMY

What the hell...?

Marco appears on a mid-high PLATFORM just ahead of them.

ELLIE

(pleased to see him)

Marco! You’re here!

Marco winces in pain. He looks down at his stomach and then back to his friends...

MARCO

(in pain)

Freddy’s coming...

Then suddenly...Freddy’s arm BURSTS through Marco’s stomach area. As Krueger claws his way out, Marco screams a loud and agonizing SCREAM. The gang reacts in disbelief.

ELLIE

MARCO!!

Marco’s ripped body hits the ground as Freddy Krueger stands tall. He dusts his hat off and places it on his head. An utter look of evil upon his face.

FREDDY

The kids of Degrassi street...Come to play with ol’ Freddy, eh? How sweet.

EMMA

We’re not afraid of you Krueger.

FREDDY

That Dream Warrior shit died out a long time ago, welcome to a brand new nightmare. Now, say hello to my little friend.

Freddy points and JT appears, chained up, battered and bruised.

PAIGE

Oh my god, it’s JT.

EMMA

Let him go, Krueger!

FREDDY

Poor little JT, so lost without his freedom and...Liberty. I’ve arranged a little reunion for you, look...

INSERT SHOT – DREAM VISION

Freddy points to the wall and a “Dream Vision” screen appears with Liberty on it. Everyone watches.

INT. GYM – NIGHT

It starts to storm outside as Liberty continues her watch over her sleeping friends. In the background, we see a figure approaching her. She turns around and it’s...JT.

LIBERTY

(surprised)

JT? What are you doing out of the hospital? Are you okay?

I came back for you, Liberty.

Liberty gives him a great big hug.

LIBERTY

I was so worried about you. JT, why are you still in your hospital robe?

He lifts up a BLOODY scalpel.

Had to cut my way out of some sticky situations...

Liberty has a look of “OOOKAY” on her face.

(with a smile)

...I’m just foolin.

JT takes the scalpel and SLASHES Liberty’s throat. BLOOD splatters all over as she falls dead. JT gives a Freddy-laugh and falls back into a coma.

INT. FREDDY’S ULTIMATE BOILER ROOM – ZERO HOUR

JT cries and Freddy mocks him. Craig and Jimmy plot to rescue JT.

FREDDY

Simple minds are so easy to control.

CRAIG

(To Jimmy)

You distract Krueger, I’ll see if I can get to JT.

Jimmy agrees.

JIMMY

(To Freddy)

So, is this the best you got Freddy? Not impressed.

FREDDY

You ain’t seen nothing yet...

Craig attempts to get on the platform and Freddy blocks his way with a BLAZE of fire. Freddy retracts his blades and plunge them into JT’s chest. JT dies and his soul enters Freddy.

FREDDY (CONT.)

Play time is over kids. Now the real terror begins.

INSERT SHOT – FREDDY’S CHEST

Freddy rips his shirt and shows THE SOULS OF HIS CHILDREN. The faces of Toby, Darcy, Jay, Alex, Manny, Peter, Spinner, Marco, Liberty and JT appear in torment on Freddy’s chest. The kids all turn away in disgust.

EMMA

You sick bastard.

FREDDY

I know what makes you scream, and all of your fears are strong. No more spiders and snakes here children, I want your true fear...

And with a flash of light, everyone is pulled into their own nightmare.

CUT TO:

INT. ROOM – ZERO HOUR

The light brings Paige to a time and place she instantly recognizes as the night she was raped. She turns to exit but the door is locked. A VOICE calls to her from behind.

MALE VOICE (O.S.)

Paige, I’ve been waiting for you...

Paige turns to find DEAN, the jock who raped her and got away with it.

DEAN

Now the magic can happen all over again.

PAIGE

(nervously)

Dean? You’re not really here, this is just a dream, a stupid bad dream.

DEAN

I was the best thing that ever happened to you babe, your dream come true.

PAIGE

You raped me, Dean. I said no.

DEAN

They always say no, when they really mean yes, yes.

Dean grabs Paige and she bashes him in the head with a nearby TROPHY. He wipes BLOOD from the gash and licks it.

DEAN (CONT.)

Mmm, you like to play rough. So do I...

Dean backhands Paige and she flies into the bed. When she opens her eyes...FREDDY is on top of her. Krueger licks her face.

PAIGE

(crying)

Get away from me.

FREDDY

Come on Paige, there ain’t nothing like a dead man that can make you...shout. Just ask Alex, I had her screaming like she was on fire.

PAIGE

(angrily)

No, means no!

Paige kicks Freddy in the balls and he rolls over and disappears. She attempts to make it to the door but a set of SLASHES appear across her back. BLOOD GUSHES.

Paige tries her best to get away but she is flung every which way across the room as Freddy blinks in and out of sight, slashing her each time. The walls are now painted with her blood. The dead body of Paige Michalchuk lands on the bed and Freddy reappears. He acquires her soul.

Freddy takes his non-gloved hand and examines her blood stained face, eyes still open. He shuts them.

FREDDY

Poor thing.

CUT TO:

INT. HALLS OF DEGRASSI – ZERO HOUR

The light brings Emma and Jimmy to the hall of Degrassi, but it’s not the colorful school we know and love, this is “Nightmare Degrassi” with the bodies of four hundred or so DEAD students littering every walkway.

JIMMY

At least we managed to stay together.

EMMA

Look at this place...

Jimmy and Emma turn a corner and run right into a ghost from their past, RICK MURRAY, the school shooter who paralyzed Jimmy and traumatized Emma. He stands before them covered in YELLOW PAINT and FEATHERS carrying a HANDGUN. BLOOD pours from the gunshot wound in his stomach.

RICK

Hello Emma, Jimmy. I’ve been looking for you.

JIMMY

(To Emma)

He’s not real. Ignore him.

Emma closes her eyes hoping he will disappear. When she opens them...no such luck.

RICK

I’m not going anywhere Emma, because here, time stands still.

Rick points the gun at them.

RICK (CONT.)

(To Emma)

I’m dead because of you. And now, I’m going to return the favor.

Jimmy snatches the gun from Rick.

JIMMY

I don’t think so...Freddy.

Jimmy unloads the clip into Rick and blows him to hell.

EMMA

I think we should get out of here.

Rick gets up, full of holes. All of the other dead students rise up as well. They reach for Jimmy and Emma.

JIMMY

I think you’re right.

They take off running and eventually lose the zombie students.

JIMMY (CONT.)

I think we lost them. There’s gotta be a way out of this place.

EMMA

We have to keep moving.

Just as they begin to run again the FLOOR turns to QUICKSAND and Jimmy is caught in it. Emma grabs his hand.

EMMA

Jimmy, hold on, I’ve got you.

Jimmy SCREAMS in agony as something attacks him from below. Emma pulls as hard as she can and frees Jimmy from the sand only to find out...JIMMY’S LEGS ARE GONE! Emma screams at the sight of the bloody knobs where the legs once were.

JIMMY

(in pain)

Get out of here Emma. I’ll only slow you down.

EMMA

I’m not going anywhere without you Jimmy.

Freddy bursts from the sand and claws Jimmy in the back.

FREDDY

Another one bites the dust.

BLOOD spurts from Jimmy’s mouth as he is dragged under the quicksand. Emma takes off running.

INT. MEDIA ARTS CLASSROOM – ZERO HOUR

Emma runs past the Media Immersion Lab and takes a step back as she sees someone in there.

EMMA

Snake?

Simpson turns around and his EYES, TEETH and TONGUE are REPTILE. Emma goes white.

SNAKE

(hiss)

Now you know why they call me “Snake”

His tongue LASHES OUT and wraps around Emma’s neck. She struggles to break free as Snake pulls her closer. With no other choice, Emma takes a huge BITE into the slimy tongue and Snake releases her as he SCREAMS. She darts out of the room.

INT. ELLIE’S ROOM – ZERO HOUR

Ellie awakes to the smell of SMOKE and the sound of a FIRE ALARM. Ellie, realizing the time and place, runs into the kitchen.

INT. KITCHEN – ZERO HOUR

A pot on the stove is FLAMING, as is the curtains and the wall. Ellie’s Mother, MRS. NASH, is passed out on the table, next to her is a bottle of WHISKY.

ELLIE

(urgently)

Mom, wake up! We have to get out of here.

Freddy appears, sitting at the table pouring whisky shots down MRS. Nash’s throat. Ellie is terrified.

FREDDY

This bitch is fuuucked up, with the good shit.

ELLIE

Leave her out of this Freddy. It’s me you want.

Freddy goes over to Ellie.

FREDDY

You’re already mine Ellie...we’re old friends, remember?

He grabs her arm and pulls up her sleeve. Freddy takes his knives and RECUTS her old SCARS, Ellie cries in pain.

MRS. NASH

(drunken)

Face it Eleanor, your Father’s not coming back. I need a man around, so get use to it...Freddy’s your daddy now.

FREDDY

You heard your Mother, now give Daddy some sugar...

As Freddy goes to French kiss Ellie, she grabs the whisky bottle smashes it over his head. Freddy staggers back and Ellie grabs a BURNING RAG and tosses it on him. Freddy goes up in FLAMES.

ELLIE

You’re toast, Krueger.

Freddy tries to grab Ellie but she takes an acrobatic leap through a window.
