Chapter Sixteen

“Okay, you three follow me please,” Mr. Raditch said to Emma, Jay, and Sean. They followed him into his office. “Now someone better tell me what is going on and I want to know right now.” He demanded. “Emma, I trust that you won’t lie to me so go ahead. You start.” “Well, uh can I please not go first?” They all looked at her oddly. Normally she wouldn’t care who it was, she would tell the truth. “Emma I want you to go first. Now unless there is something you are hiding, you should have no trouble telling me right now.” He said. “Okay. Well Sean and I had a fight after you left this morning. Then it turns out he is in my math class. During the announcements he decided to talk to me and then I gave him a note saying that I wanted him to meet me out front on the steps so we could talk.” Emma said. “Is there anything else Emma? I doubt that is how you got involved in this so I am expecting more.” He waited for her to reply. “There is more. Sean came outside and well we kissed. He was fine about it at first until he brought up Jay. He said he heard some girls talking and before Sean came out of the school Jay came up and hugged me so I guess he thought the complete opposite of what was happening. He called me a slut and then walked off to find Jay. There was a large group of people gathered near Jay which isn’t normal so I went to go see what was going on. I get there and Sean is beating the hell out of Jay over me. I pushed Sean off of Jay and then I yelled at Sean. That’s about it.” Emma said. She felt bad because she knew Sean was going to get in trouble. “Is all of this true Mr. Cameron?” Sean nodded. “Jay?” “Yeah it’s all true.” “Okay, Jay you can go to the nurse. Tell her I sent you. Mr. Cameron and Miss Nelson, I am not done with you two yet.” Jay got up and left. “Now you two need to learn to be civil around each other. Sean you jumped to conclusions and Emma did not need to be called a slut. For that I am giving you a detention. Now as for you Emma, you didn’t intentionally start this, as a matter of fact you didn’t start this but since it was over you I am also giving you a detention.” Emma was shocked. “What? But that isn’t fair. I didn’t do anything.” “Okay since you don’t think it’s fair I will change your punishment along with Mr. Cameron’s. For the next month you and Sean will be spending Saturday detention together. It won’t go on either of your records but maybe if you two are put in the same room you will learn to be civil towards one another. Now you may leave.” With that said they both got up and left.

“Sean I can’t believe you would beat up Jay.” “Why? It’s quit simple actually. You see I love you Emma and I don’t like other people messing around with my things.” “But Sean, you don’t own me and we are not going out. For the last time, we will never be together again. I can’t deal with all of this. It’s to stressful. I love you too but you always find a way to hurt me. Now I will never be able to fully trust you again.” Then Emma walked off. Sean knew she loved him and that everything or almost everything she just said was true but he was going to change that. He had an idea. He would leave her alone for the rest of the day. If she walked by he wouldn’t even look at her. Sean even decided to talk to a few girls. Maybe have them get really close to him. Make her jealous.

School was finally over. His idea was working. Emma was jealous. Whenever she walked by and saw him with another girl really close she would just stare in disbelief. Sean went home and did all of his homework. If his plan was going to work then he would need to leave his house around ten. Emma would be awake probably crying. He got really sad at the thought of her crying again. He hated hurting her and he hated when she was sad.

It was almost ten so he decided to head out. He walked to Emma’s house and walked around to the side where her window was. He looked in and saw that the light was still on. And sure enough there was Emma sitting there crying. He knocked on the door and Emma came over.

“What are you doing here? I told you to leave me alone.” She hissed. “I know but I need to talk to you. And by the looks of it you could use some cheering up.’’ She let out a breath and said fine. Emma moved out of the way so he could climb in. Sean turned around and hugged her. She was in too much of a bad mood to refuse. Since she didn’t refuse the hug he went in for the kiss. Bad idea. She pulled away and slapped him yet again. “Sean what the hell are you doing. A hug is fine but a kiss? A kiss is not fine.” “Emma you needed a hug and I know you wanted to keep that kiss going.” They moved over to her bed and sat down. “So Sean, what did you need to talk to me about?” “Oh, well I’m sorry for hurting Jay. I know you don’t care about me anymore and would probably be happier if I moved back to Wasaga but I’m not. I don’t like to see you hurt Em, especially when I am the one who is hurting you. And I know it will take time for us to work things out but I want too. I need to work things out and I need to be with you. I’m not giving up.” “Do you really care about me and want things to work out that much?” She asked. “Yeah Emma, I really do.” “But what about everything I said? How I slapped you oh I don’t know three times maybe?” “I don’t care about any of that. All I care about is you. As long as I have you then I’m fine. What happened is in the past and I want it to stay there. So lets make a deal. From now on we won’t bring up anything from the past. That includes everything up until this moment. Deal?” She had a huge smile on her face. “Deal.”

Emma leaned over to him and pushed him down. Then she climbed on top of him and started kissing him. Her hands were under his shirt and she was trying to take it off but he stopped her. “Whoa. Emma, we just made up. What are you doing?” He stared at her confused. “I want you Sean. I have for so long. I just can’t take it anymore.” “So you want to you know…” “Yeah Sean, I do.” Then he pulled her down and they started kissing again. Right after that Emma pulled his shirt off and then her own. I am going to let you make up the rest yourselves. Just know that they had sex.

Sean was the first to wake up. He was looking at Emma and saw how peaceful and pretty she was when she was sleeping. Just then she woke up. “What are you looking at?” She asked. “You and how beautiful you are.” She hit him playfully in the arm. “Yeah right. Well do you want to go to school or-” “No I don’t want to go to school. I want to spend the day right here with you,” He said and gave her a smile. “Okay fine but my mom is going to come down here you know. So go hide in the bathroom or something.” Just then Emma’s mom knocked on the door.

“Emma get up for school.” Sean decided to take this opportunity to go hide. “Mom I don’t feel good.” Her mom came in the room and checked her forehead. “You don’t have a temperature.” “I know but my stomach hurts and I think I am getting a sore throat.” “Oh okay, well then stay home. I will have Archie get your homework from school okay?” “Yeah. Thanks mom.” Then her mom left and Sean came out from hiding.

Chapter Seventeen

Sean and Emma were still in Emma’s bed. They were talking about future plans, what they liked about each other, occasionally they made out, and then they would fall asleep. Emma was almost asleep when her cell phone rang. She got up to go get it. It was Manny. She picked it up.

“Hey Manny,” Emma said. “Emma where are you?” Manny asked. “I’m at home why?” She was confused. Normally Manny wouldn’t call Emma to ask where she is if she wasn’t at school. “Well Jay was looking for you. He said he needed to talk to you. Oh and he said he wanted to beat the hell out of Sean. Sean isn’t in school today either. Do you know where he might be?” Manny said really fast. “Whoa Manny, slow down. Sean is with me and did Jay say what he needed to talk to me about?” “You are with Sean right now? What? Why? And yeah he did. He said it was something about the other day.” “Well it’s none of your business why I am with Sean right now but what about the other day? He knew that make out session was just to get Sean upset. He was the one who brought it up actually. Tell him I’ll meet him at the Dot later around two okay?” “Okay. But Emma, be careful with him. He might try to pull something and a lot of people go to the Dot after school.” “I know but he won’t do anything. It’s not like he likes me.” “Ha. That would be kind of funny. Well I got to go. Talk to you later Em.” “Bye.” Then Emma hung up the phone and Sean woke up.

“Who was that?” He asked still half asleep. “Oh it was Manny. Jay was looking to talk to me and he wants to beat the hell out of you. Isn’t that great?” She said sarcastically. “Oh yeah that’s so great Em. But why does Jay want to talk to you? You told me nothing went on Em. Did you lie to me?” “Sean I can’t believe you’re asking me that. Of course I wouldn’t lie to you. So that’s why I’m going to tell you that I have to go meet him at the Dot around two and you can’t come.” “Aw come on Em. He will try to pull something. I know Jay a little too well. Jay sees, Jay likes, Jay gets. And by the looks of it he likes you and he will stop at nothing to get you,” He said. Sean was kind of mad. “Sean don’t worry about it. He won’t get me. You have me so there is nothing for you to worry about.” Then she kissed him on the lips. They started to make out intensely. Nothing could stop them that is until her phone rang again. “Em come on. Don’t get that.” “It could be important Sean.” “Oh really? What is more important than me?” “Oh Sean don’t flatter yourself.” She hit him playfully in the arm and then went to get her phone. This time it was Paige.

“Hey Paige.” “Emma where are you? The school is starting to talk.” “What do you mean starting to talk? Did Manny tell people I was here with Sean or something?” Emma asked. If Manny did she would flip. “No Emma. Manny wouldn’t do that, but someone saw Sean go to your house late last night and he didn’t leave.” “Okay well he didn’t leave. Is there a point to this?” “Yeah a big point. Emma there is no nicer way to say this so I’m just going to say it. People are calling you a slut and there are a lot of rumors going around saying you and Sean slept together. It’s funny though because you wouldn’t do that.’’ Paige said waiting for a response. “Uh Paige…” “Oh my God. Emma you didn’t did you?” “Well yeah we did.” “Oh Emma, what are we going to do about these rumors then?” “I don’t know. Just tell everyone they aren’t true and that I have a fever and a really bad headache which is why I didn’t come to school today.” “Okay, I will try that but sex is a pretty big topic at our school. Rumors like that don’t stop easily even if they aren’t true.” Then Paige hung up and Emma walked back to the bed.

“Emma are you okay?” Sean asked. “Sean the school is talking about us.” “Ha. So what’s the big deal?” “Sean someone saw you come into my room last night and they also saw that you didn’t come out.” “Oh.” “Yeah and the school is talking about how we had sex.” “Well we did. What’s the big deal Em?” “The big deal? Sean I don’t want the school to know personal stuff like that.” “Emma relax. Everything will be fine. Don’t worry so much.” “I guess you’re right. So where were we, before that stupid phone rang?” She didn’t wait for his answer. She just went in and kissed him long and hard. They continued to make out on and off until it was about fifteen minutes before two.

“Sean I have to get ready. I’m meeting Jay remember?” “Oh, I forgot about that,” Sean said in a sad tone. “Aw Sean don’t be like that. You know I love you and that I wouldn’t let Jay pull anything so don’t worry.” “Yeah I know. And I trust you but I just don’t trust Jay.” “Don’t worry. But I need to get ready and you need to leave before my parents come home. Hm. Just don’t leave before me. Leave a few minutes after or something that way Jay won’t come by and find you and beat the hell out of you.” “I can take care of myself Em. You saw what I did to him before.” “Yeah I know and it wasn’t pretty. He could do damage to you too you know. He is prepared this time.” “Just go get ready.” Emma went to her closet and picked out some clothes. She was going to wear a white jean skirt, a cream colored tank top and her white flip flops. Then she went upstairs with Sean following her. Since it was a nice day out she decided to walk. After Emma was out of sight Sean decided it was safe to walk home. On his way home a few guys were walking towards him. As they passed they yelled to him, “Nice going man, finally getting some action from Miss Nelson.” He couldn’t help but smile. Sure it was a bad reputation for Emma but he loved how he could say that he was her first.

Emma walked into the Dot and heard people talking about her and Sean. She didn’t know the rumors and gossip would be this much. She stood there for a moment looking for Jay. Finally she spotted him and walked over to him and sat down. “So Jay what did you need to talk to me about?” “Well about that make out session we had the other day.” “Jay I told you it didn’t mean anything to me. It was just to get Sean upset and it worked. End of story.” “Maybe for you it was nothing but to me it was something. Emma I like you. Ha. Actually I like you a lot. I have since the day you came to the ravine with me. And no it’s not because you’re good at what you did. It’s just you are the girl I could never get and that makes me want you even more. It’s not just something physical for me and I know you have feelings for me deep down inside somewhere.” Emma was speechless. “Jay I told you it was nothing. And I need to go.” She got up but Jay grabbed her arm. He grabbed her arm so hard she feel onto his lap. Emma was just sitting there looking at him wondering what he was going to try and do next. Before she knew what was happening Jay pulled her in for a kiss. Everyone stopped what they were doing and just looked at them in shock. Emma even heard a few girls whispering, “She had sex with Sean and now she is making out with Jay. She really is a slut.” Emma jumped back. “Jay I can’t. I won’t. I love Sean not you.” Then she ran out of the Dot. By tomorrow everyone was going to hear about her kiss with Jay. She had to tell Sean before anyone else. But each time she called him he wouldn’t pick up the phone.

Chapter Eighteen

It is seven thirty in the morning the next day. Emma dreaded this day. She knew people would talk about what happened at the Dot. She also knew that Sean would be furious if he found out from someone else. Emma got out of bed and rushed to her closet. She decided on a pair of black hip huggers with a pink shirt and white flip flops since it was warm out. She added some last minute touches and then headed out the door. Sean would probably be at school earlier than usual because he had to work on his shop project or else he would be behind. She walked up the steps of the school and went downstairs to the shop room. When she got there Sean was nowhere in site. She figured he wasn’t coming any time soon so she went outside and waited for Manny or someone she knew. Manny came about five minutes after Emma went outside to wait for someone.

“Hey Em. You’re here early.” Manny said. “You’re one to talk.” “Well I called your house and your mom said you already left so I figured I would find you here.” “Oh.” “Well I need to talk to you. I know you and Sean well you know did it, but people are saying that when you went to the Dot to meet Jay he pulled you onto his lap and kissed you. Is that true?” Emma tried to not make eye contact with Manny because she knew she would say something mean. “Well yeah he did. I came to school early thinking Sean would be here so I could tell him what happened before anyone else did.” “Oh. Well is he here?” “No otherwise I wouldn’t be outside waiting for someone.” “Well he should be here soon. You can tell him then. But anyways, so how was it?” Manny asked with a smile. Emma’s smile was even bigger. Manny had never seen her smile this big. “It was great Manny. I always knew my first time would be with him.” “Aw Em, that’s so cute.” As they were talking people started to arrive. By the time the bell rang for the students to get to class Sean was nowhere in sight. Emma started to worry. “Don’t worry about it. He will be here soon.” “I hope you’re right. I don’t want him to hear it from anyone else.” They walked into the school. Emma walked to her locker and saw a white piece of paper sticking out. When she walked by earlier she must have missed it. She opened her locker and then read the note. Emma thought it was sweet.

Emma I had a great time the other day. Lets do it again sometime. I love you.

When she was done reading it she found someone tap her shoulder and give her a kiss on the neck. She turned around to find Sean. “Sean, you didn’t have to leave a note. You could have just told me.” He looked confused. “Em, what note? What are you talking about?” Uh oh, Emma thought. It must be from Jay. She was in trouble now. “Oh, nothing.” He still looked confused. He took the paper from her hand and read it. When he was done he looked upset. “Emma what the hell is this?” “It’s not what it looks like.” “Okay then tell me because from the looks of it you’re sleeping around with other guys. Maybe Jay?” “Sean, how can you even think that? I’m not sleeping around with anyone but you. I told you I had to meet Jay at the Dot. Well he told me he liked me, a lot. He said the make out session in front of you meant a lot to him but I told him it was nothing to me. I guess you were right about that Jay sees, Jay likes, Jay gets thing because when I went to walk away he grabbed my arm hard and I feel into his lap. The next thing I knew he was kissing me. I pulled back and ran back to my house. A lot of people saw and I figured I better tell you before someone else did.” Sean was stunned. Whenever he did that to her before they made up, she would slap him. Emma didn’t slap Jay. Something was wrong with that. “Emma, uh, well I got to go. Class is about to start.” Then he walked away as Jay was coming up.

“Jay how could you do that? I thought that was from Sean. You know I don’t like you like that and you know that thing we did was nothing.” “Oh but Emma, it was something. And you do like me like that. Every time Sean did that to you, you would slap him. Well before you made up anyway. You didn’t slap me. I’d say you enjoyed it. Maybe you want some more of it?” He said with a smirk on his face. “You want a slap Jay. I’ll give you a slap.” She slapped him hard across the face. “Now don’t speak to me or leave me another note like this again. And stay away from me and Sean.” Then she walked to her first class. She had to sit next to Sean since it was math and she figured he wouldn’t talk to her. Her assumption was right. He ignored her.

Sean would ignore her the whole day if she didn’t do something. It was lunch and everyone was outside. She walked up to him and tried to get his attention. He was with JT, Spinner, Jimmy, Marco, and Craig. They were all talking to each other and everyone but Sean seemed to notice Emma there. “Hey Emma,” Craig and Jimmy said. Sean still didn’t look over to her. She did the only thing she could think of to get his attention. She took her hands and put them on his face then she leaned in and kissed him. Everyone was watching. When she pulled away Sean’s face made a perfect ‘O’ shape. “Whoa Emma,” JT said. Sean just stared at her. “Sean we need to talk.” Then she grabbed his hand and moved him to a quiet place so they could talk.

“What’s with you? You ignore me for no reason.” “Emma there’s a reason. Before we made up every time I kissed you, you would slap me. You didn’t slap Jay when he kissed you. Now maybe you don’t realize it but that means something. And it hurts.” Emma just stood there. “Sean I didn’t enjoy the kiss if that’s what you are implying. I love you. God, why can’t you just believe me for once.” Emma was a little mad. She didn’t enjoy the kiss. Or did she? There was only one way to find out. This for sure would make Sean mad and jealous but it was the only way to find out for sure. Emma spotted Jay. She yelled for him to come over and he did. Sean was confused. Why would she ask him to come over here? Before he could finish his thoughts Emma was at it again with Jay. It wasn’t long like last time but she still kissed him and in front of Sean. They pulled apart and Emma had a big smile on her face along with Jay. “Okay there. Jay no hard feelings or anything but once again that didn’t mean anything.” Both guys were confused. “What the hell is going on Emma?” Sean asked. “Sean I kissed him to see if I liked the kiss before. You know, like if I have feelings for him.” “Oh.” Was all he could say. He looked upset. “Sean don’t be upset. I don’t have feelings for him. I love you. I could kiss every guy on the planet and none of them would mean a thing. Sean I love you and I want to be with you. Jay I’m sorry but you just aren’t my type. I’m not interested in you in that way. Friends sure but a boyfriend girlfriend type of thing, no.” Jay walked away a little upset but he knew she was right. They didn’t have much in common. He only liked Emma because he couldn’t have her. Sean on the other hand was still confused. “Emma I’m still confused.” “Sean you are such an idiot. I kissed Jay to prove to you that I don’t like him. It’s a little confusing but I love you. Now get over here.” Sean walked over and Emma started kissing him intensely. “Emma we are in public,” he said. Knowing Emma hated doing this in public. “I don’t care anymore. Just get over here and kiss me.” Sean obeyed. The bell rang for them to go to their next class but they didn’t stop kissing. Instead they went to the side of the building where no one ever goes unless it’s to make out and skipped the rest of the day.

Chapter Nineteen

A month passed. Emma was getting worried. She kept repeating the night she and Sean had sex in her head. Everything seemed fine. Then it dawned on her. They didn’t use a condom. She panicked. Emma grabbed the little amount of money she had left and went to the drug store. She bought the EPT Pregnancy Test. After she got home she went down to her room and took the test. What seemed like forever only lasted about two minutes. Finally the timer went off and she rushed to the bathroom. She gasped. It was positive. Emma Nelson was going to have a baby. And it was Sean’s baby too. She knew he wasn’t ready but neither was she. Of course she knew what to do when it came to babies but she didn’t know how to be a good mother. Her mom warned her about things like this. Emma’s mom had to give up a lot of things but in the end she said it was all worth it. Emma smiled when she thought of that but her smile faded into tears. What was she going to tell Sean? And her parents and friends? She picked up the phone and called Sean to come over.

“Hey Em. I came here as fast as I could. You sounded really upset on the phone. What’s wrong?” Emma hesitated. “Sean, you know that night we well you know.” “Ha. Yeah what about it?” Sean looked so confused. He had no idea what was about to come out of her mouth. “Well Sean, I was getting worried because I haven’t gotten my period in almost a month. I ran over that night over and over again and then I realized we didn’t use a condom.” She stopped. She was crying by this point. “Emma?” “Sean I’m pregnant.” They both sat there in utter silence. “Emma, it’s okay don’t worry about it. We will get through it.” “No we won’t. I will get through it but you won’t.” “Em, what’s that supposed to mean?” “Sean I know you don’t want a family and things are going great for you right now. I can’t ruin that.” Sean was shocked. How could she think something like that? “No Emma, you have it all wrong. Sure things are going great for me but what gave you the idea that I wouldn’t want you to keep the baby? Our baby.” “Sean like I just said, you don’t want a family right now. You aren’t ready to be a dad.” “So what’s your point? You aren’t ready to be a mom yet either. We can work together. I want to make this work. I love you so much and I will love our baby all the same.” Emma looked up at Sean. “Are you sure you aren’t having second thoughts?” “Of course I’m not. So have you told your parents yet?” “No. I will later though.” “Okay good. Uh I told some of the guys I would meet them at the Dot. Bye Em.” “Bye Sean.” Then he left.

Emma went upstairs and told her parents they needed to talk. She told them everything. Surprisingly they weren’t mad. They told her she could live with them until the baby was born and that they would be able to baby sit just not all the time. Emma was so happy that they were being supportive. The only problem was what was she going to tell Sean about having to find a place to live? She could always live with Sean if he asked her but his apartment would be too small for them and a baby. Other than that everything was fine. Her parents said that they would even call the school and get her a tutor. That way she would be able to graduate but she wouldn’t have to go to school and have people look at her with a big stomach.

Chapter Twenty

Nine months passed. Emma moved in with Sean and they had a baby girl. They named her Jessica Nicole Cameron. She had Sean’s eyes, such a pretty green. As for jobs, Sean was working at the Dot after school and while Emma’s mom was watching Jessica, Emma was working at a clothes store in the mall. It paid pretty well and she got discounts on all the clothes she bought from there. Everything was going great until one day Sean couldn’t take it. Sure he loved Emma and Jessica but something made him tick and he just couldn’t take it. They lived in a crappy apartment and never got to spend time with each other. The only time they got to see each other was at school and at home when they went to sleep. There was never any time where they could be totally alone and do things like they used to. Sean wasn’t too happy about that. He and Emma had a fight one day and Sean left. Normally when they had small arguments he would come back late at night or the next day but this time he didn’t. While Emma was at school he would go back to his apartment and take some of his clothes. One day Emma came home early from school because she didn’t feel good and saw Sean taking clothes.

“Sean you’re back. I was getting worried. Where have you been?” She asked. “Em, you know I love you and Jessica right?” “Yeah of course. Why? What’s wrong?” Emma was afraid of what he was going to say. Deep down in her gut she knew he was going to say something that would hurt her. “Emma I can’t do this anymore. I thought I could. Having a baby and raising a little family with you is what I have always wanted, but I’m not ready to do it right now. I’m sorry. I just need to get the last of my things and then I’ll be on my way.” Emma just stood there crying. “But Sean, what happened to you saying you wouldn’t give up? You have a daughter now. She can’t just grow up not knowing who her daddy is.” “I’m sure you will tell her all about me. Bye Em.” He kissed her on the forehead and then left. This time he wasn’t coming back. Emma was still standing there crying. She whispered to herself, “Sean I love you. I need you. We both need you. You said you wouldn’t give up.”

All of her friends were there to support her, and since she couldn’t afford to pay the rent on her own her parents suggested that she and the baby move in with them. She went to school like she did everyday and she seemed so happy. Emma never let out her real feelings. The only person she would let all her real feelings out to was Sean and he was nowhere to be found. Not to mention he was the one who caused all of this. Everyone knew Emma was broken. They all tried to help her but she refused to tell them anything. She always said that she was fine but everyone knew she was lying. Eventually she got over the fact that Sean was gone and never coming back.
