NGU Six to Ten

Chapter Six

He spent the whole night crying and eventually he fell asleep. His mother came in to check on him but before she said anything to him she stopped and peeked into his room. He was lying on his bed and to his mother’s surprise, he was crying. She decided to leave him alone.

“Honey, is Sean going to come out for dinner?” Mr. Cameron asked. “I doubt it. He is in his room lying on his bed and I would rather not disturb him.” “Why not? He needs to eat.” “He is crying. I mean I have never seen this kid cry unless it is something really bad. The only other time he cried was when he came home to us and told us about the shooting. I think something is wrong, but we should stay out of it.” “Yeah, you are right. Sean is a big guy now and he needs to learn how to handle things himself.”

Sean awoke the next morning. He got dressed and went to school. On his way out of the house he didn’t he stop to get a little snack on the way there or even say goodbye to his parents. His parents knew something was up, but they said they wouldn’t interfere so they weren’t going to.

At school, while Sean was at his locker someone came up behind him and started kissing his neck. He turned around to find none other than Brittany. “Hey baby. Aw you look sad. What’s wrong?” He just stared at her in disbelief. “How can you act like nothing is wrong never mind act like you don’t know what’s wrong.” “Maybe because I don’t? Look if it’s about yesterday forget about it. Obviously you like me otherwise you would have pulled away when I kissed you. Oh and if she did love you like she said she would have said a lot more than what she said. Sean, I love you okay. Emma is far away and you don’t need her. You need me.” She was just standing there expecting him to agree with her. He thought about it for a moment and then realized in a way she was right. Instead of saying anything to her, he put his hands on her shoulders and pinned her against some of the lockers. Then he started to make out with her. After a while he pulled away. “Wow. Sean, uh yeah just wow. I didn’t expect you to do something like that but hey I don’t care. I liked it.” She took her hand and laced it with his so they were holding hands while walking down the hall to their first class.

Through out the day Sean was happy. He was with the only person he wanted to be with, but he couldn’t stop thinking about how much he hurt Emma. Whatever, she deserved it he kept telling himself. God knows what she was doing in Toronto anyway. She was probably at the ravine with Jay or some guy like she was last time.

It was the end of the day and he told Brittany he had a huge report to work on and he needed to be alone. When he got home he checked his email. He had about ten emails or more. He had gotten one from almost every girl who was friends with Emma. Some of the girls he got emails from were Chantel, Darcy, Manny, Paige, Hazel, Ellie, Ashley, and a few more. Some of the emails were even from some of the guys. What shocked him the most was that he got emails from Heather Sinclair and some of her friends. He figured Emma just told them all because she wanted sympathy or something. At this point he didn’t care. She just wanted everyone to turn against him and it was working. She wanted him to have a miserable life. Sean decided to open an email that was from Paige. It had some of the meanest things written in it. She said that he was pigheaded, cruel, a jerk, and what made him mad the most was that she said everyone just felt sorry for him which was why they were his friends, and that Emma only went out with him because she felt sorry for him. He knew the last part wasn’t true and he hoped the first part wasn’t true either. He wasn’t going to bother reading the other emails because he figured they would all say the same thing. Sean was finally getting a dose of his own medicine. He hurt Emma and people were trying to find ways to hurt him.

Sean was sick of it. He knew he hurt Emma really bad but gheesh, did she have to get the whole damn school involved in trying to ruin his life? He had to talk to her, but it wasn’t going to be over the computer. He decided to try the phone. Sean looked in his desk draws to find her phone number. Once he found it he ran to the phone and called her.

“Hello?” A woman’s voice said on the other line. “Hi. Is Emma there?” “Yeah she is. May I ask who is calling?” “It’s Sean, but could you not tell her who it is because she won’t talk to me if you tell her. I really need to talk to her and I might not be able to if you tell her it’s me.” “Oh, alright. Hold on though, I will go get her.” Sean waited patiently while her mom gave her the phone. “Hello?” Emma was finally there. “Emma listen, I know you don’t want to talk to me but just hear me out okay?” “No Sean, not okay. I had the worst day possible when I went to go see you. First I go to your house to find some slut there who thinks she owns you and apparently you think she owns you too because you let her yell at me, then you break my heart for the third time, and I had to walk to the bus station to find out that it was being shut down until the next day so I had to go up to a random stranger and ask if I could borrow money to call my mom. To top it all off I had a ton of random guys hitting on me from your school calling me Sean Cameron’s slut. Do you know how that feels to be called someone’s slut? The worst part was they were calling me your slut.” Emma was so pissed at Sean. “Emma I don’t know what to say. I’m-” “Want to know something Sean? Don’t say anything. Every time you say something to me I end up getting hurt because I believe it.” “Actually Emma, I was going to say that I am not sorry because hurting you was the best thing I could have done. Now I have the greatest girlfriend and guess what. She doesn’t try to change me or boss me around like you. Oh yeah, and she doesn’t care if we make out where other people can see.” Emma was stunned. She couldn’t think of anything to say. “Sean Hope Cameron, goodbye. This time I think it’s for good.” Sean waited for her to hang up or all of a sudden say something else to him but all she did was cry into the phone receiver until her mom came over to her and hung up the phone.

He felt good to let all of that out but he knew in some way or another it was a lie. Truth was that he still cared about Emma. Even if she hated him he would always care for her, but he figured that he would just have to get over it.

Chapter Seven

“Emma are you okay?” Her mother asked trying to figure out what was wrong other than the obvious which was that Sean had broken her heart yet again. “No mom, I am not okay. And I won’t be for a long time.” “Oh honey. Don’t worry about Sean, apparently he isn’t worth it.” “No mom, Sean is worth it. At least he was. I give up on him now. He always finds a way to screw up and break my heart. I never told you this but when I got that STD it was from Jay. We kind of hooked up at the ravine. I know it was bad of me but my point is at least he cared a little. It wasn’t like he was getting into a relationship so he could break my heart.” “Oh honey, Sean is just a waste of your time. As good as he was to you he was also equally mean to you. I know you can never forgive him or you won’t for a while but at least try to move on from this.” “Okay mom. I will try. Do you think it is okay if Manny and some of the girls come over tonight? I know it’s a school night but with everything I am going through, I think I will go crazy if I don’t have my friends to talk to and comfort me.” “Well I guess so. Just don’t be loud and don’t stay up late.” “Okay, thanks mom.”

Emma called Paige, Hazel, and Manny. They were all allowed to come over. Once they were all there Emma’s mom ordered a pizza. The pizza just happened to be a double cheese pizza, which only brought back terrible memories of Sean and his couch. Anyway, the girls brought over magazines that had quizzes in them. They quizzed each other, gossiped, and gave each other facials, manicures, and pedicures. The girls even decided to bash Sean. They were saying horrible things about him and telling Emma that she was better off without him. Whether or not she thought she was better off without him didn’t matter, all that mattered was that she had to learn to live without him. They had a blast until Emma’s phone rang.

She had caller ID and it was Sean’s house. She picked it up and yelled into the phone. “Sean I said goodbye. That means goodbye.” She was just about to hang up when she heard someone speak. It wasn’t Sean though. It was a woman’s voice. If she didn’t know better it was Brittany’s. “Hey Emma, Sean said I could call. I know it is kind of late but I just wanted to let you know that me and him are about to have some fun without you.” She put a big emphasize on the word fun. Emma’s eyes widened. “Emma, what’s wrong?” Paige, Manny, and Hazel asked. “It’s Brittany. That girl Sean is with. She said they are going to have some fun in a little while. I’m guessing they mean sex.” Emma was crying now. Paige and Hazel went to comfort her while Manny took the phone. “Okay you listen up you little bitch. Emma does not deserve what you are putting her through. She is the nicest person I know. She has a ton of friends and if you decide to put her through anymore shit I can guarantee that there will be a line of girls waiting to beat the shit out of you. Understand me?” Manny was pissed that someone would try to hurt her best friend. Paige, Emma, and Hazel were shocked that Manny would say something like that. “Well, do you understand me slut, I mean Brittany?” “Are you threatening me sweetie?” “No, it’s just a warning. One you should take into consideration.” With that said Manny hung up.

“Wow Manny. I had no idea you had that in you.” The three girls said in unison. “Yeah, I didn’t either but hey, no one hurts my best friend, especially on purpose. I don’t think she will bother you again unless she is a complete ditz and didn’t understand me when I said that there would be a line of girls that willing to kick her ass if she bothered you again.” “Come here Manny.” She walked up to Emma where Emma gave her a big hug. “Manny thank you so much. I am so glad we are friends again. I’m glad we are all friends.” She said as she looked at Paige and Hazel. It was getting late so they decided to go to sleep.

They woke up the next morning. Emma and Manny were upstairs while Paige and Hazel where still in Emma’s room. Paige looked at Emma’s phone and realized she had a message. After checking caller ID she realized it was from Sean or someone who called from his house. She called Hazel over and they listened to the message. “Emma- Brittany stop doing that. Can’t you see that I am on the phone? Anyway, Emma, yeah me and Brittany you know we did it. It was great. Well yeah I have a box of things I am sending to you. You should get it tomorrow. Bye.” Paige and Hazel couldn’t believe it. Sean was practically having sex again, with Brittany while on the phone. Brittany was only giggling every two seconds. “Paige I think we should delete that. Emma is going to die if she listens to that.” “I know but what about that box?” “She will obviously get it today. It’s not like she would expect Sean to leave her a message about it anyway.” “Yeah, you’re right. Well lets go upstairs before they get suspicious.”

The girls all walked to school together. Today was a new day for Emma. No one was going to bring her down and with Paige, Manny, and Hazel that would be a sure thing. So they thought anyway.

Chapter Eight

Sean woke up the next morning with Brittany lying next to him in his bed. Sean initially thought the worst possible thing, but then realized that they both still had all their clothes on. He woke her up and told her that she needed to go to school. He also told her that he would see her tomorrow because he needed to pick up the mess they made from the night before and he had something to take care of. Once she left he quickly got dressed and got on the next bus to Toronto.

Sean got off the bus stop that was the closest to his old school. From there he walked to the school. Sean arrived just in time for everyone to be at lunch. Since it was a pretty warm day he figured everyone would be outside. When he got to the school his prediction was right. Everyone was outside, but he was trying to find someone in particular. Sean squinted his eyes a little and then he found who he was looking for. She had on a blue denim mini skirt with a black shirt that had Abercrombie written in pink and white letters on the front. He started to walk over to her but suddenly stopped. Everyone at her table looked over at what she was looking at. They all gasped. He started walking again until he reached her table.

“Emma, can I talk to you for a minute? It’s about last night.” “What about last night Sean?” “Well I was drunk and so was Brittany. All I remember is her telling you that she and I were going to have some fun and then I left you a message.” Emma looked confused. What message was he talking about? Paige and Hazel looked at each other exchanging looks. “Okay maybe you don’t remember the message or didn’t listen to it yet so never mind.” “No Sean, I think you should tell her and everyone else while you’re at it, what was on the message.” Everyone turned around to see who said that. It was none other than Manny. “Sure, okay then. Basically it said that I slept with Brittany and we both had a good time.” “Sean Cameron, you have the nerve.” She walked right up to him and slapped him in the face real hard. Emma left a red handprint that was sure to stay there for a few hours. “You called me to find out I wasn’t there so instead you leave me a message. What is your problem? Anyone who came in my room and saw that I had a message could have listened to whatever it was and heard that. That’s disgusting Sean.” She was going to walk away but he grabbed her arm. “Sean I’m warning you, let go of my arm.” She screamed. “Or what? Maybe if you let me explain the reason I came here you wouldn’t be so mad.” “Explain? There is nothing for you to explain except for the fact that you took the day off from school to come to Toronto to tell your ex girlfriend you had sex and it was great. None the less you also have to rub it in. Well guess what. I am done with this.” “No Emma, come on. I love you.” “Ha. You really do have the nerve. You don’t love me so don’t you fucking say that.” With that said she turned around and saw Jay. She walked right up to him and kissed him. That kiss lasted at least two minutes and then they were out of breath. Everyone thought she was done but no, she went back and kissed him again. This time Jay’s hands moved down towards her ass and he started to let some of his fingers go under her skirt. Sean was watching the whole thing in disbelief. He was so angry. Jay, his supposed best friend was making out with his ex girlfriend. Sean didn’t care if she was listening or not. He knew one of her friends were so they would tell her what he said if she missed it. “Emma. Emma Nelson, I love you. I always have and I have never stopped. When you came to see me it wasn’t what you thought. Brittany is one of my really good friends. I will admit she does like me and I started liking her after the little scene you caused, but you always think the worst of things. I wasn’t inviting her over to make you jealous although you are kind of cute when you are.” He let out a little smile and a laugh too. “Emma, my point is I love you. I would do anything for you. I will also admit that I did hook up with Brittany, but each time I kissed her or was around her I saw you. You are still the only person I think about at night and the only person I see myself with ten years from now. None of that is going to change.” His eyes were glistening because the whole time he was saying this to Emma she was still making out with Jay.

Chapter Nine

It was after school and Paige, Hazel, and Manny were outside waiting for Emma. They left all of their things at Emma’s from the night before and had to get them. While they were waiting they were talking about how disgusted they were at Emma.

“I can’t believe he poured his heart and soul out to her, to everyone, and she was playing tonsil hockey with his supposed best friend.” Paige said a little mad at what Emma did. “Yeah I know. Sean must really love her. I mean I hear he is doing well up there with grades and stuff but not as good as he should be. He took the day off to tell Emma he didn’t mean what he said on some message and she doesn’t care.” Manny said. She was angry with Emma too. “Exactly, he poured his heart and soul out to her, the least she could have done was listen. If that was me I wouldn’t care about any of the fights we had before. No guy comes to his true love’s school and blurts out his true feelings to not only her, but everyone who was outside listening. I know none of us have been fond of him or ever tried being his friend but I think I speak for all of us when I say we need to do something. Am I right?” Hazel asked. “Yeah, you are right. We need to think of a plan. Something that will make Emma realize how stupid she is for doing that. But we also need Sean to come back down here, or maybe get Emma to go up there.” Paige said. “I know just the thing. It will take a week or two but it should work. All we need to do talk about how sweet Sean is for coming up here and doing what he did when we are around Emma. She will probably tell us to stop but who cares. After that one of us can go over her house and talk to her, late at night though. Sean used to tell me that if he went to her house late at night he would find her crying. I am not saying she will be but she will be ready to talk to one of us. Maybe she will tell us how much of an idiot she thinks she is for doing that to Sean. Anyways, after she decides to talk to one of us, the next day we skip school and go shopping.” Manny said hoping they would agree with her plan. “Manny, that all sounds great but why go shopping?” Hazel said. “Well you didn’t let me finish. Okay, so we go shopping and then tell her we are going to go to the beach. She will be too caught up in the fun we are having to realize the closest beach to us is in Wasaga.” “Manuela Santos, I must say hun, great plan.” Paige said. “I actually think it will work. But what are we going to do about Sean?” Hazel asked. “Leave that to me. I’ll inform Sean that I want to come up and talk to him about Emma. Tell him I have a plan for him to get her back if he wants her back, and if he doesn’t I will make him.” Paige said with a smile on her face. Just then Emma came out. “Sorry I took so long. Well let's go to my house so you can all get your things.” Emma said to the girls. Then they all started walking.

Chapter Ten

Three weeks had past. Everything was going according to plan. It took Emma a little longer than they expected for her to tell one of them how she felt stupid for doing that to Sean, but other than that everything was fine. All that was left to do was Paige’s job. Paige went over to Emma’s to help her pick out an outfit for the next day and while Emma was trying it on Paige looked at her caller ID to get Sean’s number.

“Hello?” Mr. Cameron said. “Hi, is Sean there? I need to speak with him, it is urgent.” Paige said. “Yes he is. Hold on while I go get him.” Mr. Cameron left the phone and left Paige to wait patiently. “Hello?” Sean said, confused as to who it was. “Sean, look it’s Paige.” “What? Did you call to tell me how I am a jerk or something because I don’t have time for that? So if you don’t mind, bye.” He said angrily. “No, Sean that’s not why I called. I called to say that I’m sorry for what Emma did. No one deserves that. You blurted out to the whole school your feelings for Emma and she didn’t pay attention. The whole time she was well you know what she was doing.” Paige said. “Yeah, I know what she was doing. Next time don’t remind me okay? But of all people, I would expect that she would call and tell me she is sorry but whatever, that isn’t going to happen.” Sean said with a sad tone to his voice. “Well maybe, maybe not. Hazel, Manny, and I are skipping school tomorrow. We are going to take Emma shopping and do girly stuff. After that I wanted to come up there and talk to you. I would rather do it in person because discussing emotional things on the phone really isn’t the right thing to do. So what do you say? I can come up after you get out of school to talk if you want.” Paige said waiting for an answer. It took him a few minutes to give an answer out but he finally did. “Sure. Come if you want. I get out of school at ten tomorrow morning because of a half day so come whenever you can. Make it sometime between noon and one I guess.” “Okay. Thanks Sean. You won’t regret this.” Then she hung up. She left him confused. Why would he regret it if he didn’t let Paige come up and talk to him? It didn’t add up, but he was looking forward to tomorrow.

Tomorrow came fast. Emma’s mom knew what the three girls were planning on doing, but only after they told her everything. The girls all got ready at Emma’s. They made sure Emma looked hot. They told her to wear a denim mini skirt with a pink and white striped top that had a slip in the middle so it exposed her stomach and she had on a pair of black flip flops. Manny did her make up while Paige and Hazel did her hair. Emma had no idea why they were making her look this hot when they were just going to a mall but she didn’t care. She liked this special treatment. After they were all done getting ready the headed to the mall. If you saw how many bags they had you would think they bought up each store. It was getting to be around eleven thirty. Manny told them that she wanted to go to the beach. They all bought new bathing suits so they wouldn’t have to go back to their house’s to get one. They bought tickets for the bus that would bring them to the beach. Emma didn’t realize what beach or where she was until it was too late.

“Why are we in Wasaga?” Emma asked. “Emma this is the closest beach to us, silly.” Hazel said. Manny and Paige exchanged looks and then laughed because Emma still hadn’t caught on to their little plan. “I need to make a quick phone call.” Paige said. She walked over to a quiet area and called Sean.

“Hello?” “Sean it’s Paige. I am in Wasaga. Actually I am at the beach. Do you mind coming down here so we can talk. I don’t exactly have transportation to your house and I don’t know where it is so?” “Yeah sure, I will be there in a minute.” Then he hung up and rushed down to the beach where instead of finding just Paige he found three other girls with her. His eyes bulged out when he saw Emma. She looked even more beautiful than she normally was. He slowly walked towards them.

“Emma, why don’t you go with Hazel or Manny to get us some food at that concession stand over there?” She said hoping she would leave. “Yeah sure, Hazel do you want to come with me?” “Sure Em.” They left so it was just Paige, Manny, and soon to be Sean. Sean finally made his way over to the two girls.

“Paige, why do I have a feeling you didn’t come up here to talk?” “Sean it was the only way we could get you to come meet us and we couldn’t tell Emma or she would flip.” Paige said. “Look Sean, we had this plan and so far it is working. Emma told me that she feels like an idiot for doing what she did to you. We talked and she said she wanted to talk to you. I don’t know if now is the time she will want to talk but give it a try. Please?” Manny pleaded. “Alright, but I doubt she is going to want to talk to me.” He said sadly. “That’s fine. We are here for as long as it takes for her to talk to you, well not really but until six.” “You are going to need more time than that.” He said. “Sean don’t give me that attitude. Emma is going to kill us when she finds out what we pulled on her.” Manny snapped. “I know, I know, I’m sorry. Well I am ready to talk so where is she?” “She went with Hazel to get food. She should be back in a minute.” Paige told Sean. They waited for a few minutes before Emma came walking back with Hazel. She dropped the napkins she was carrying. Good thing it wasn't the food or the girls would be pissed.

Emma gave Manny and Paige the meanest looks. “Manny, Paige what is Sean doing here? I thought we were going to the beach to have a good time. My idea of a good time doesn’t involve him of all people.” “Emma relax. We are going to have a good time, but not until you tell Sean what you told me.” Manny said to Emma. “Well what if I don’t want to tell him? What if I was feeling sorry for myself and said things I didn’t mean?” Emma was mad now. Her three best friends set her up. “Emma we all know you meant it. Everyone knows you meant it. You can ask anyone and they will all agree with us. You and Sean and perfect for each other. I’m not taking his side but you to tend to think the worst of things.” Hazel said, finally speaking up. Emma just stood there looking at each of them, giving them the meanest, coldest stare she could. Finally, she looked at Sean. He jumped when he saw the look she was giving him. Instead of making it obvious that he didn’t like this idea he walked up to her. “Emma I didn’t know anything about this but I am glad they did it. We need to talk and we are going to talk now whether or not you like it.” He snapped at her. “Really? Now what if your precious slutty girlfriend finds out?” “Emma she doesn’t matter right now. This is between you and I. Now lets go.” Sean said and grabbed her hand. He dragged her to a quiet and abandoned part of the beach.
